Watch Mamma Mia and Rocketman at open-air cinema screenings at Calke Abbey
Outdoor cinema sessions showing the best films, including Mamma Mia, will take place this summer at Calke Abbey. Adventure Cinema, the UK’s largest itinerant open-air cinema, will show films in the UK’s top venues until the end of September and will visit Calke Abbey.
Calke Abbey, near Ticknall in south Derbyshire, will show films on a huge outdoor screen in August. On Friday, August 5, moviegoers can catch Rocketman. On Saturday, August 6, the venue will present Mamma Mia and on Sunday, August 7, it will be The Princess Bride.
In Stafford, at the Marston Road Ground, there will be two outdoor film screenings. On July 22, it will be the screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and the following night, July 23, it will be Mamma Mia.

Adventure Cinema will host the screenings and hold events in theaters across the UK when new films like Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story, Bafta winner, and Oscar winner Encanto join the roster of cult classics, musicals and family favorites to show. Ben Lovell, co-director of Adventure Cinema, said: “We are delighted to be traveling across the country to once again stage the UK’s largest open-air cinema this summer, partnering with over 70 unique and beautiful venues. We pride ourselves on the fantastic roster of films on offer, from award-winning films to favorites for friends and families.
“We look forward to welcoming those who love movies and the great outdoors. We have worked very hard to make these events safe and fun for everyone.”
Across the country, there will be over 200 outdoor cinema screenings in 70 venues. They will also stop at more scenic locations than ever before, including 20 National Trust sites, six castles and countless heritage properties.
Calke Abbey is a Grade I listed country house in the care of the National Trust. The outdoor cinema will be nestled in 600 acres of estate, rustic gardens and amenity grounds.
The tour will also include nationwide screenings of the celestial Elton John biopic Rocket Man from 2019, to mark the artist’s 75th birthday. There will also be sing-along classics Grease and The Greatest Showman, and Bridget Jones’ Diary. Alongside this, Adventure Cinema has also announced new locations in London, Cardiff, Bristol, Peterborough, Coventry, Margate, Carmarthen, Portsmouth, Swansea, Stafford, Calne, Cardiff, Aberystwyth, Bournemouth and Lincoln.
This year, Adventure Cinema will partner with Cancer Research, with on-site collections and the ability for visitors to donate when purchasing tickets. Tickets for Adventure Cinema start from £14.50 plus booking fee and are available now via their website.
