Loving, Magical, Dysfunctional Family in Colombia Inspires Music and Actors in Disney’s 60th Animated Film “Encanto”

Disney’s “Encanto” takes place in a beautiful village in Colombia where members of the same family all have magical gifts … except, for some reason, Mirabel.

Lin-Manuel Miranda is the man behind the music.

“I would write songs that would inspire the animators. I would see the designs that the animators made of the characters and which in turn would inspire my writing and so on,” said hitmaker “Hamilton”.

Stéphanie Beatriz, who voices Mirabel, had the honor of singing the songs of Miranda.

“Mirabel’s song, ‘Waiting on a Miracle’, he actually told me later that the way he was structuring it was kind of a waltz structure, because he wanted it to feel slightly out of step. with what was going on around her musically in the movie, ”Beatriz said. “Just like Mirabel feels out of touch with the family and doesn’t really feel out of place.”

John Leguizamo lends his voice to another family member, Bruno.

“I come from the most dysfunctional family in the world, so I really relate to this movie because it was a dysfunction. It puts people in certain lockers, you know, the strong, the pretty, the one with the flowers. , the one who has temper tantrums with storms and the one without a gift, “Leguizamo said.” So you can see yourself in this dysfunctional functional family! “

“Encanto” is officially in theaters Wednesday, November 24.
