King Kong (2005)

Thunder in the tropics has flaws, but at its core, it’s over-the-top satire that exposes everything that’s wrong with Hollywood. It’s packed with hilarious, endlessly quoted lines, plus two jaw-dropping performances by Matthew McConaughey and Tom Cruise.

Some of the 21st century’s finest comedians and actors kicked off the century with a bang in this massive ensemble production that lived up to the hype upon release and aged like fine wine 14 years later.

Predator (1987)

Predator-Arnold Schwarzenegger

Predator was part of Arnold Schwarzeneggers string of 1980s hits: half testosterone-soaked, half sci-fi horror shootout movie that dismantles (limb by limb) the action genre and the men in it, who find all their weapons and mass completely useless unified corps against a superior warrior who hunts humans for sport.

Predator has become an instant-action classic thanks to the dreaded creature, stunt doubles, sweltering jungle, and John McTiernan.

Even with a simple plot, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is so hilarious it’s impossible not to laugh. The film embraces the ridiculous concept of being sucked into a video game, but never insults the intelligence of the audience.

With Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Karen Gillan, and a sweet cameo by Nick Jonas, this film is an action extravaganza made to entertain. It’s inspired by the classic vintage Jumanji game, but features a clearer direction and plot.

The national treasure The series has two beloved films, and the third film has been in limbo for years, but every now and then new information comes to light, the most recent being that the script will be sent to Nicolas Cage for approval very soon. This is huge news for any fan of the franchise, as it looks like development is finally moving forward.

However, it’s still certainly a long way from the production stages, let alone release, and fans of the Disney series will need something to tide them over until the trio finally sees the light of day. Between a recently released video game movie, a more mature Bahamas-based adventure, and plenty of Steven Spielberg releases, there’s plenty for fans to keep busy.

VIDEO OF THE DAY

Uncharted (2022)

Stream on Netflix

Based on the video game series of the same name, Unexplored follows Nathan Drake and Sully traveling the world to find a pirate’s lost treasure. The film has been criticized for being one of the biggest betrayals of the source material, as the portrayals of the characters are completely unfaithful and the film picks and chooses bits and pieces from each game to adapt.

Although fans were disappointed, it’s a perfectly enjoyable family adventure movie, and if fans are willing to look past the difference with the games, they’ll see that it really isn’t that bad. Just like with national treasure, the 2022 film sees Drake and Sully race against the bad guys to collect the treasure, but the whole concept is ridiculous because they’re not the most masterful adventurers. But that’s what makes it so fun.

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001)

Stream on HBO Max

national treasure was pretty simple in terms of what Benjamin Gates was looking for, and even in terms of the IndianaJones series, from which the Disney franchise is so obviously influenced, there is absolutely no supernatural element. Lara Croft: Tomb Raideron the other hand, sees the titular character, once again, race against the villains to find two parts of a triangular artifact that can bend time when put together.

However, the premise of both films is essentially the same, and it’s not just Jon Voight’s father figure role that connects them. The 2001 release is an outstanding adventure film full of incredible tomb settings, and it’s something the end of National Treasure: Book of Secrets was clearly influenced by. The movie is especially worth watching now that fans think Jolie should return as Lara Croft.

Jungle Cruise (2021)

Stream on Disney+

Jungle Cruise is one of the newer adventure movies, but the story, setting, characters, and even the time period couldn’t be more different from national treasure. The film has a period setting, as it’s set in 1910s South America, and all the characters are so outgoing and almost cartoonish. However, the tone of the film is so similar to national treasureas it has the same light comedy and overall feel of a Disney adventure movie.

It was part of Jungle Cruise great appeal when it was first released, as very few movies like this are made. It’s also worth watching now that Jungle Cruise 2 has been confirmed and hopefully it will focus more on what made the movie great, like the characters and the actual cruise, than the fantasy elements.

The Mummy (1999)

Stream on Peacock & Fubo TV

However The Mummy’s legacy would normally be tarnished with its two sequels and its reboot, as each one is worse than the last, the 1999 film was never considered great when it was first released. But, many 90s kids saw it in movie theaters, and with those kids now in their 30s, some might even be critics themselves, which means it’s held in high esteem and It has also aged surprisingly well.

Audiences have become nostalgic for the practical sets and cinematography where not everything is shiny and beautiful, and that’s The Mummy in a word. Not only that, but the film features some of the most entertaining characters of the 90s, and it’s been quite influential as other adventure films have completely lifted its structure, including the recently released movie. Jungle Cruise and even national treasure.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017)

Stream on Starz

Dwayne Johnson seems to be making a name for himself as an essential actor in adventure films. While many might think he’s the go-to actor for everything, as he’s the most bankable star working today, he’s the lead actor in so many adventure movies, including the 2017 sequel , Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.

Since the concept had completely changed, as it’s now a video game instead of a board game, and it’s just as much of a body-swap comedy, not many people thought it would be good. before its release. But Johnson and company proved those skeptics completely wrong, as the film turned out to be excellent. The movie might be a little clunkier than the Nicolas Cage-led series, but it’ll still fill that adventure movie-like hole in national treasure fan life.

Into the Blue (2005)

Stream to Amazon Prime Video

In the blue is a little more mature than national treasure, as it involves drug dealing and has much more colorful language, but the 2005 release is one of the most underrated adventure films of the 2000s. The film follows a diver who dreams of finding the one of many pirate ships lost in the Bahamas, but his life is turned upside down when he finds the remains of a pirate ship. However, he also finds a crashed plane with bricks full of cocaine.

In the blue is one of the most stressful treasure hunt films, as the characters’ lives go from bad to worse after they make one mistake after another. The movie isn’t exactly an uplifting Disney adventure, but the adventure-at-sea film goes much further.

Fool’s Gold (2008)

Stream on HBO Max

Fool’s Gold is another grounded and mature adventure film, and it once again follows a character in search of treasure in an exotic location, but this time it’s Australia. But while the film is more mature, it still showcases everything that makes a great four-quadrant adventure film.

The 2008 film is full of action, comedy and lots of romance, and despite having a low Rotten Tomatoes score, it’s a total audience delight and will satisfy any fan of adventure films. It seems Matthew McConaughey loved adventure roles in the 2000s, as he also starred in the equally fun Saharabut that was before he rebranded himself as a serious Oscar-caliber actor.

The Lost City (2022)

Stream to Amazon Prime Video

Brad Pitt and Sandra Bullock appeared on screen together twice in 2022. They recently appeared in High-speed trainand they also shared screen time in The lost city. The latter is about a romance novelist who finds herself lost on an uncharted island with her cover model, and she hates every minute of it.

just like Jungle Cruise before and national treasure before that, the film sees the unlikely pair bond as they attempt to survive extremely strange circumstances. The film is made great by its supporting cast which includes Pitt and Daniel Radcliffe, who plays an evil billionaire, creating hilarious and cringe-worthy scenes.

The Adventures of Tintin (2011)

Stream on HBO Max

The Adventures of Tintin is one of the most spectacular movies of the 2010s, and we don’t talk about it enough. The film is so technically advanced when it comes to its motion capture performance, it has incredibly digital effects, especially for its time, and, at the heart of it all, there’s a terrific adventure story.

Director Steven Spielberg brought the character to life more than any other adaptation, and the film takes audiences on a globe-trotting adventure reminiscent of the IndianaJones days. Not only that, but it features one of the greatest pirate movie scenes outside of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise too. The 2011 film captured lightning in a bottle, and fans are craving a Tintin after.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989)

Stream on Fubo TV and Paramount+

While any of IndianaJones movies would be great to fill that national treasure 3 zero, even Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, there’s nothing more fitting than the third film, The Last Crusade. The movie was the last entry in a trilogy, and it concluded perfectly with Indy literally riding into the sunset, and that’s exactly what the third national treasure should be for Benjamin Franklin Gates.

It would be nice to have several more national treasure movies, but since it’s already been 15 years since the second movie, where wanting another round of releases is asking a lot. There should be one more movie with Gates as the main character, and it should get the perfect send-off, especially since it will address the bigger question regarding page 42 of the President’s book. And if national treasure 3 is even half the quality of The Last Crusadefans are going to have a blast.

But while the film is more mature, it still showcases everything that makes a great four-quadrant adventure movie.

The genre has recently been all about superheroes, but it used to be about common people and thieves.

The adventure film genre was one of the favorite places for original stories and high-profile epics. But over the past few decades, it seems like these movies are for superheroes only. What was once the place for writers to showcase their writing and directors to showcase their style has now been downsized. These films are difficult to make because they cost a lot of money, need stars and require some risk.

What if I told you it’s a good time to write them?

Executives are always looking for the next franchise, and they’re also looking for that stack script to break up the monotony of their days. Breaking away from an action-adventure movie might be the ticket for you, because people miss them so much.

One of the favorites I miss, the one I constantly hear mentioned lately by tons of people working in the industry, is The Mummywith Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz and a CGI mummy trying to kill them.

Watch this video from Quality Culture, and let’s talk about it later.

Why We Miss Action Adventure Movies The Mummy (And how to write yours)

As I mentioned in the opening, adventure movies are a great way to showcase your set-writing skills, but they’re also ways to give us exciting characters, engaging dialogue and generally a really fun game.

These are not easy scripts to write – there are no easy scripts to write. But they can be a lot of fun. So much time is spent on world-building, plotting and plotting that when it’s done right, people really appreciate it. I wanted to take a look at three things The Mummy does well – so well, in fact, that it has had several sequels.

And as we examine what it does well, let’s see how you can emulate it.

1. History

The Mummy depicts a really specific story. A wrongfully imprisoned soldier knows the location of a secret city and is hired to take an archaeologist there. Competing with them is a group of Americans who have their own expert, the one who betrayed our soldier. When they get there, they accidentally release an ancient mummy who steals the rival team’s organs, working to use the plagues to regain their power and take over the world.

This story is so clean and has a lot of interesting twists.

When writing your story, try to focus on the simple ways. We want to understand the exact purpose of the people in this adventure. Is there a hidden land, artifact, or something more they’re chasing? What drives them to come to this? And is there a map or a person leading the way? There’s so much room to make this story big and wide, but still have those simple elements that allow people to jump on board.

2. Characters

As I mentioned before, the characters are what make action-adventure movies tick. The characters in The Mummy all fit into stereotypical archetypes, with little twists. We have a dashing hero, who is also kind of a goof. We also meet the expert librarian, who also functions as the love interest, and her cowardly brother, who is there for comic relief.

This mixture of comedy and undercutting serious versions of these people is fresh. People are sexy, but they’re still very funny and very smart.

Each person has the odds against them in many ways, but instead of escaping because of their brawn, they often get away with it because of their quick wits. Whether it’s closing a deal, swimming the right side of the river, or simply surviving the mummy’s attack thanks to not reading the book of the dead, their brains often complement them.

We also have strong bows. The coward becomes brave. The buff guy becomes vulnerable. And the shy librarian manages to save the world thanks to her discovery of the limelight. And the audience cheers with it, getting the happy ending it deserves.

3. Adventure

Look, we need to focus on this! The adventure here is what sets this story apart and what briefly made this genre come back.

When writing an adventure film, remember that the story should have a fairly clean plot. This one also takes us to many places, hence the adventure of it all. We see a ton of places, even limited to Egypt. We are in lost cities, catacombs, prisons, river boats, the desert, in airplanes and inside ancient ruins. Your story should be broad and take us to interesting places. Even if you’re not a globetrotter, try to find those magical places that exist under our noses.

In addition, these places should cause problems. Whether it’s attacking insects, rival gangs, animals or curses, you can never make the adventure easy. It has to be spectacular for our group to survive. The Mummy allows every scene to appear with that pristine wonder that brings adventure movies to life.

So take these lessons and write your own specification!

Jurassic World: Dominion and Indiana Jones 5 are fast approaching as two of the biggest movies of this summer. The two upcoming films are the latest in the iconic adventure franchises launched by Steven Spielberg. Spielberg is one of the absolute kings of the adventure genre. Although he didn’t do much in recent years, he was known for his unique brand of popcorn movies that were released almost every summer in the 80s.

Spielberg’s films always have at least an element of adventure, even thrillers, comedies and sci-fi films. And then there are the hard-core adventure movies, like the iconic IndianaJones series. But which Spielberg adventure films are the best of all?

VIDEO OF THE DAY

ten The Lost World – 6.5

As previously reported by Screen RantSpielberg wanted to make a sequel for jurassic park and even thought of original ideas that could be used. Author Michael Creighton was finally convinced to do something he had never done before, write a sequel. The final product combined ideas from both parties and had quite a different tone from the original film, although it was still a very enjoyable adventure film.

The story sees Ian Malcolm and a new group of companions exploring the dinosaur-infested Isla Sorna. It benefits from both Creighton’s writing and the usual Spielberg magic to make it one of Jurassic Park’s best sequels. Highlights include the T-Rex RV attack, Roland Tembo’s dinosaur hunt, and the climax with a T-Rex on the loose in San Diego.

9 Hook – 6.8

movie hook

Pirate films were one of the staples of adventure cinema in recent decades, and in 1991 Steven Spielberg brought his version of Peter Pan on the big screen. The film was intended to be a musical, but all songs were dropped a week after filming, as reported collider.

The adult version of Robin William from Peter Pan returns to Neverland where he aids the Lost Boys in their endless struggle against Captain Hook. There are great adventure moments such as Peter’s return to the Lost Boys camp and the swashbuckling finale. While not Spielberg’s highest-rated film, it holds a special place in the hearts of moviegoers who saw it in theaters as children.

8 The Adventures of Tintin – 7.3

Iconic Belgian Adventure Comic Tintin was finally brought to the big screen thanks to a 2011 animated film directed by Spielberg. He had been sitting on the film rights since the death of author Hergé in 1983. The film is a throwback to classic Spielberg popcorn movies and offers great family fun.

The film combines elements from several Tintin stories and offers a trip to exotic places. Spielberg is known for his love of long takes, but this film’s CGI animation style made for a memorable chase scene that could never be accomplished live. The film was to be followed by a sequel, but more than a decade later there has been no development.

7 Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom – 7.5

Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

If the adventure has a name, it must be Indiana Jones. The sequel from 1981 to The Raiders of the Lost Ark took the franchise in a different direction which saw Indy rescue kidnapped children from devil-worshipping thugs. The darker tone reflected the chaos in Spielberg and Lucas’ lives at the time, and Spielberg now considers it his least favorite. IndianaJones movie reported by screenrant.

But once the viewer reaches the scene where Short Round saves Indy at 1 hour 24 minutes, the film is nothing but a non-stop action adventure with a mine hunt and the iconic rope bridge scene. Other interesting bits include a fight in a Shanghai nightclub where Indy uses a gong to escape machine gun fire.

6 The Goonies – 7.7

Spielberg wrote a story called The Goonies about a group of kids searching for lost pirate treasure to help save their neighborhood from greedy investors. Although Richard Donner directed it, Spielberg was heavily involved in many processes regarding the film.

An incredible cast of young actors has been assembled, including Key Hu Quan from cursed temple and future the Lord of the Rings starring Sean Astin. The kids encounter Indiana Jones-style traps and other dangers as they race the Fratelli family for One-Eyed Willie’s Treasure. A beloved classic for all 80s kids.

5 ET The Extra-Terrestrial – 7.9

ET moon and bike

Speaking of beloved ’80s treasures, HEY is one of the most unique and charming films ever made. It’s the story of a young boy who rescues a lost alien wanted by the US government. The concept has been replicated by many films over the years, but Spielberg’s thoughtful approach to every aspect of the film helps it stand out as an all-time classic.

The adventure aspect really kicks in in the third act when the neighborhood kids use their bikes to escape the Feds. Longtime Spielberg collaborator John Williams provides a moving soundtrack to accompany the thrilling chase. And the sight of flying bikes silhouetted against the moon is as iconic as it gets.

4 Jaws – 8.1

Chief Brody throws buddy while shark attacks at Jaws

The movie that made Spielberg a household name featured a giant great white shark terrorizing the resort town of Amity Island. A masterclass in making “monster” movies, Spielberg’s directing choices are still studied by film students to this day.

There are some great thrills and character moments throughout, but again, the later stages of the film are where the adventure aspect picks up. Brody, Quint and Hooper sail the open sea in search of a troublesome shark. Audiences can see their efforts and things slowly evolve from a confident hunt to “You’ll need a bigger boat” and beyond.

3 Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade – 8.2

Indiana Jones and her dad got tied up in The Last Crusade.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade is an absolute triumph in sequel making. It was a common trope that the third film in a trilogy was usually the weakest, but Indy 3 shook them all up with its 1989 release. To this day, fans still wonder if it or The Raiders of the Lost Ark is the best Indy movie.

Like the original IndianaJones adventure, last crusade sees the man in the hat take on the Nazis in a worldwide race for a biblical artifact. What separates this one from the rest of the series is the addition of Sean Connery as Indy’s father, the franchise’s best supporting character. The relationship between the two characters adds tremendous heart and significance to the film’s climax.

2 Jurassic Park – 8.2

A wreckage of a dinosaur wreaks havoc after escaping from an amusement park. This brilliant concept was all Steven Spielberg needed to hear to engage in a bidding war with James Cameron for the film rights to Michael Creighton’s unreleased novel Jurassic Park, as previously reported. screenrant.

The movie was every dinosaur-loving kid’s dream come true! Along with his usual magic touch, Spielberg brilliantly used the best of practical effects and cutting-edge CGI to present believable dinosaurs. The incredible T-Rex attack scene is one of the franchise’s all-time iconic moments which will see its 6th installment released in the summer of 2022.

1 Raiders of the Lost Ark – 8.4

The rock scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark

Steven Spielberg’s Greatest Adventure Movie is the greatest adventure movie of all time. Spielberg’s involvement in Raiders stemmed from his desire to lead a james bond film. George Lucas bragged to him that he had something better than Bond, which was inspired by 1930s adventure soap operas.

Shot on a surprisingly modest budget, it used old-school movie shooting tricks and incredible stunts. The opening scene in the trapped temple of Chachapoytan and the breathtaking desert chase sequence are the gold standard of adventure movie sequences. Raiders has often been described as the perfect movie and fans are counting down the days until they see their favorite archaeologist again in Indiana Jones 5.
